Xtra Packs are additional pieces of music which compliment every arrangement and are guaranteed to work seemlessly within their 'parent' arrangement. Xtra packs are grouped into specfic combinations and each type of pack fulfils a particular area of musical interest.

Although the ‘standard’ orchestration for Pop Band (and to a lesser extent Big Band) creates an authentic reproduction of the original work, there may be situations that bands would benefit from having a little ‘Xtra’ support. TopDots create 5 different Xtas’ packs to compliment the standard arrangement. They are: -

• Single Front Line Instrument in C.

 The standard line up for Pop Band arrangements is for a 4 piece ‘horn’ section (Trumpet, 2 saxes and trombone). The Single Front Line Instrument pack is designed to be used when there is only one front line player. Each instrument part in this pack is the same as the others (except for some octave transpositions here and there to accommodate range limitations). The keys referred to in the part names identify the pitch of the instrument not the key of the arrangement. For example, the Instrument in C could be performed by any instrument that is pitched in C (Concert) which includes instruments like flute, oboe, violin, vibes, etc.

Our arrangers carefully scrutinise all the front-line parts and create a new all-encompassing part which includes the major horn lines, riffs and solos so that all the important lines can all be played by a single performer. Naturally, these parts work seamlessly with the other instrumental parts in the TopDots series and are also available in all the Alternate key versions that we produce.

There may be situations or simply a preference that requires the band to perform the work as an instrumental. No matter the reason, TopDots produces 4 different front-line parts for instruments pitched in C, Bb, Eb and C (Bass Clef). These parts contain just the melody and can be used, alongside the existing horn charts, to give an extra dimension to the band.

It would be presumptuous to assume that it is always the Keyboard player that doubles as the singer. Although the vocal line is available in the master keyboard part (for this very purpose) we have extended the instruments that could also be a vocalist and Instrument player. Each part contains the normal part the player would be expected to play with a cue stave containing the lead vocal part.

All the Guitar and Bass Guitar parts are reproduced using Tablature notation. Indeed both traditional and tablature is provided for any players who prefer this system of notation. If the arrangement uses multiple guitars these will all be included. The amount of guitars will vary depending on the song.
